How To Minimize Chlorine’s Effects On The Body From Swimming Pools
What Is The Problem With Chlorine?
Chlorine exposure is linked with respiratory issues like asthma and chest tightness, eczema, cancer, and cardiovascular disease. It is no doubt that it is a toxic substance. Reducing our exposure is essential; however, I don’t think fear-mongering is a solutions-oriented approach to solving the problem.
Fear Is A Bad Strategy
I think that fear is a terrible strategy to motivate change. Fear is just as toxic (if not more) as chemicals in a pool. That said, I believe there can be a good balance of reducing exposure to chemicals as much as possible and not living in fear.
I LOVE POOLS. I was a “fish” throughout my childhood. It was hard to get me out of the pool. Pools brought me happiness, peace, fun, and independence! Being scared of pools because of chemical exposure is not something I am willing to do.
You see, everything is energy, and energy flows where attention goes. Because pools have symbolized all of these great emotions in my life, I never will fear a pool because of its chemicals. Instead, I will advocate for creating the safest swimming experience possible regarding these exposures. One can do many things to minimize the effects of chlorine on the body after swimming.
Minimize Chlorines Effects On The Body:
Shower before and after swimming
Create a protective barrier by lathering your skin in coconut oil
Give your hair a protective boost by lathering it in a baking soda/water shampoo mix afterward
Take an epsom salt bath at some point
Supplement with high-quality vitamin C
Supplement with taurine
Thankfully, there are many alternatives to chlorine pools popping up, but the reality is many of us will be exposed and IT IS OKAY.
