Best Herbs for Lymphatic Health
The lymphatic system helps rid the body of toxins, wastes, and debris and transports white blood cells to fight infection. This fantastic system lacks a pump which is problematic in modern times due to the excessive toxins in our environment and our sedentary lifestyle (comparatively speaking).
One of the best ways you can support your overall well-being and longevity is by stimulating your lymphatic system regularly. In past posts, I've shared ways I love to stimulate the lymphatic system, such as movement, rebounding, dry brushing, hot/cold therapy, massage, legs up the wall, and so much more. Now I share some of my favorite herbs to support this glorious system.
Six of my favorite herbs to support your lymphatic system:
Red Root
Red root (Ceanothus americanus) is one of the most powerful lymphatic herbs available. It helps move stagnant lymph fluid, supports the spleen, and is particularly helpful for swollen lymph nodes.
Echinacea
Most people know echinacea as an immune herb, but it's also a fantastic lymphatic mover. It stimulates white blood cell activity and helps clear congestion in the lymph nodes — especially useful when you feel a cold coming on.
Calendula
Calendula is a gentle but effective lymphatic herb. It reduces inflammation in the lymph nodes and supports the movement of lymph fluid throughout the body. It's one of my favorites because it's safe for almost everyone.
Mullein
Mullein works on the lymphatic tissue in the lungs and throat specifically. If you tend to get swollen glands or respiratory congestion, mullein is a wonderful addition to your herbal routine.
Yarrow
Yarrow is a classic detox herb that supports both the lymphatic and circulatory systems. It encourages the body to move fluid, clear waste, and reduce inflammation — especially in the pelvic area.
Cleavers
Cleavers (Galium aparine) is one of the most well-known lymphatic herbs in Western herbalism. It's cooling, cleansing, and especially effective for swollen or congested lymph nodes. Best taken as a fresh plant tincture or cold infusion.
How to use these herbs:
These herbs can be taken as teas, tinctures, or capsules. I always recommend working with a trained herbalist before starting any herbal protocol, especially if you have a health condition or are on medication.
