Designing a Cute Non-Toxic Living Room

Why Have a Non Toxic Home?

Did you know indoor air can be up to 100x more polluted than outdoor air? One of the best decisions you can make for your health starts by reducing your toxic exposures at home.

Many chemicals lurk in furniture, textiles, building materials, and dust (VOCs.) Most people spend 90% of their lives indoors, which makes having a non-toxic home even more important. Due to my background in holistic health and the design industry, I want to make having a non-toxic home CUTE and DOABLE!

Chemicals to Avoid in Furnishings:

  • Flame retardants: associated with lower IQ, cancer, hormone disruptions and other health problems

  • Phthalates: linked with endocrine disruption, low sperm rates, asthma, wheezing, and cancer

  • PFAs: LIFELONG episode 17 with Leah Segedie

  • Formaldehyde: a carcinogen and damages the respiratory system

  • Acetaldehyde: is behind the “new furniture smell” and is a carcinogen

  • Benzene: a carcinogen and endocrine (hormones) disruptor

  • Vinyl: a carcinogen and damages the respiratory system
